Our Vision & Mission

ITS South Africa has been established as a result of close cooperation between the public and the private sector. This cooperation has been a key factor in the progress made by ITS South Africa.

ITS South Africa’s vision
To achieve a balanced and integrated transport system in sustainable cities with public transport as a mode of choice where ITS technologies contribute:

  • To enhance transport efficiencies;
  • To improve transport-related safety and security;
  • To encourage a people-oriented approach in transport; and
  • To promote environmental sensitivity.

Mission statement
The mission of ITS South Africa – driving all activities – is to develop and strengthen a sustainable South African ITS industry that supports the achievement of national transportation goals.

Strategic Objectives
To implement this strategy, ITS South Africa will works towards the following strategic objectives:

  • Delivering value-added services
  • To expand its delivery of value-added services to members;
  • To grow its membership base and network or partners and collaborators.
  • Contributing to an enabling environment
  • To strengthen the strategic positioning and brand equity of ITS South Africa in the local and global market; and
  • To cultivate political and governmental championing of ITS.

Strategic Projects
ITS South Africa operates two strategic projects; the ITS Centre of Excellence and the biennial i-Transport Conference and Exhibition.

ITS Centre of Excellence
The ITS Centre of Excellence is build on six pillars:

  • Knowledge Management
  • Training and Skills Development
  • Education
  • Research Support
  • Innovation and Development
  • Projects.

i-Marketplace Supplier Database
To enable public authorities wider access to potential suppliers and service providers and to open better access to procurement opportunities, especially for smaller and medium sized companies, ITS South Africa is developing its i-Marketplace Supplier database to be launched first quarter 2011.

i-Transport Conference and Exhibition
The biennial i-Transport Conference and Exhibition is a flagship project in support of the local ITS industry and it benchmarks against global best practice. It brings together local and international ITS experts to find better ways of promoting more efficient and safer transport operations.
